Maurice Dufrene French Art Deco Coiffeuse

This French art deco “Coiffeuse” vanity is by Maurice Dufrene (1876 – 1955) and dates from the 1920’s.  The vanity is clad in exotic Carpathian elm burl veneer on oak secondary wood – the vanity has two drawers and a door which opens to shelves.  The top folds out and a beveled mirror stands up revealing a fabric lined locking compartment.  The door has a geometric carving of ferns and flowers.  The vanity was purchased from Lillian Nassau in the 1960’s and has been in the home of a world famous interior designer until now and is in excellent condition.  It measures 17 ½” x 17 ½” and is 27 ¼” high.  Open, it measures 25 ½” wide and is 44 1/8” high.
