This American art deco chrome steel and black lacquer telephone table was designed by Wolfgang Hoffmann (1900 – 1969) for the Howell Company in 1934. The son of the famous architect and Wiener Werkstatte founder Josef Hoffmann, Wolfgang was brought to Chicago to help Joseph Urban design the color scheme for the 1933 World’s Fair where he came to the attention of the Howell Company and became resident designer for them from 1934 to 1942. The table, with a small shelf for phone book or writing materials measures 20” wide x 15” deep and 29” high.
